Code Benchmarking & Profiling

Automatic code profiling tools are used by RTR technical staff, both commercially available and RTR proprietary tools, to determine areas requiring further concentration for analysis and which potentially might offer the highest level of performance gain.  Initial benchmarks are defined and captured for later comparison.

 

Engineering Analysis

RTR engineers understand performance bottlenecks and the methods for improving code.  In addition, due to our core cross-platform experience, we know ‘what’s under the hood’ and how to take advantage of architectural and technology capabilities. These skills are applied in analyzing the original code and making changes that will have a positive impact on performance.  Some of the areas of analysis include:

Platform Dependent Comparatives

In some instances, hardware platform may be factor or consideration.  For example, you may be considering a port or migration project in order to introduce your product to a new market segment.  RTR will make use of the RTR data center with over 70 different platforms (O/S, version, manufacturer) to determine the cross-platform performance issues of the underlying code.

 

When the application reaches practical limits in every dimension, such as fully utilized CPU pipelines and cache bandwidth, then it has achieved optimal balance and performance.  Our objective is to optimize the code to attain maximum performance while understanding tradeoffs in the process.
